LET’S TALK ABOUT THE BOYS IN THE SOUL FUNKIN’ DISCO GROOVIN’ ROOM!
We’ll start with Frandisco 00, aka Francis Ronan. Some of you may remember Fran from when he DJ’d at Abigail’s Party last September and at that party he was playing house. Well this time we are welcoming Fran back but with a different brief, this time he’ll playing soulful funky disco grooves. Fran is so diverse as a DJ and when I met him back in the mid/late 80s this is what he played – obviously acid house hadn’t even happened then, and we were all grooving to Hip Hop, funk, soul & rare groove. Fran became a friend – someone we partied with regularly at places such as Boiler House, The Mud Club and The Raw.
Over the years Fran has DJ’d at Cafe Mambo in Ibiza and Club Moxa in Italy, in addition to spending considerable time out in California and rocking the decks at many of the superb clubs out there. In the UK Fran has DJ’d at some monumentous and well-renowned nightclubs including Cafe de Paris, Ministry of Sound & Bagleys. He’s also warmed up many a great venue for some amazing bands such as Kool & The Gang, The Brand New Heavies, Joyce Simms & Aswad and is a regular at the well renowned local festival Happy Days.
Let’s talk now about Andrew Gallimore – another of our Vinyl Selectors in that soul damned funky room…
I’ve known Andrew for a lifetime and through my friendship with him I developed my own love of music. As teenagers we’d spend hours listening to old school hip-hop, grooves, soul and funk. Even back then Andrew had a huge record collection of rare and funky tunes. Through his love of music Andrew has DJ’d at Boilerhouse, Kensington Roof Gardens, The Clarence, Party in the Park & The White Horse with Giles Peterson.
Andrew chose a career as a Sound Engineer and started out in the music industry working for the well renowned and revered DJ/Music Producer Ian Levine, working all hours assisting Ian in the studio. He then went on to work at Sarm West Recording Studios for Trevor Horn.
A true professional, Andrew has had the pleasure and the experience of working with some amazing artists such as:
CJ Mackintosh, Masters at Work, Danny Tenaglia, David Morales, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez, Satoshi Tomiie, Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, Art of Noise, Tina Turner, Cher, Robert Plant, Beloved, Erick Morillo, The Fugees, Whycliff, Silver Bullet, Eternal, All Saints, East 17, Take That & Martha & the Vandellas.
And lastly but most definitely not leastly – DJ Malachi Trout aka The Flying Fish.
Now this is a chap who knows about music. Mal has probably one of the largest Vinyl collections known to man, and if you want to get hold of any record, from anywhere, then this is the person who you turn to. He’s been DJing and collecting records for many many years and has worked for various record labels including Mastercuts, Streetsounds, Hubbub Records, Good Looking Records, and compiled various funk and soul albums.
He helped create the Hip Hop group The Herbaliser back in the 90s with friends Ollie Teeba & Jake Wherry. Malachi and Ollie have a series of mixes on Mixcloud – “What’s in the Bag?” which is purely 7″ vinyl.
In more recent times Mal had a regular slot DJing on Point Blank FM He currently runs a vinyl brokerage company making records…… and so his passion continues <3
There was a time I couldn’t live without a Malachi tape in my walkman. This is a man that can introduce you to music you fall in love with, and I’m sure he’s gonna do the same for you in July.
I cannot wait to see and hear what these three chaps are going to play for you on Saturday 1st July! Reunited after some time these three are going to provide you with some formidable sounds – I just know it! Get your tickets and get yourself a movin’ and a groovin’ to the eclectic, soulful, disco & funky tunes in this super room!
